Ballet Jörgen Canada Tours Alberta & British Columbia

From a media release:

Ballet Jörgen Canada’s Coppélia National Tour
“A Comedy with Love” visits 10 locations in BC and Alberta
February 4 to March 5, 2011

BC & AlbertaBallet Jörgen Canada is traveling across Canada, bringing Coppélia: A Comedy with Love to venues across British Columbia and Alberta. In total, 11 performances across the two provinces will be part of the Western segment of its Canada-wide tour. The company is also performing in Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

Coppélia: A Comedy with Love tells the story of Dr. Coppélius, a lonely and disillusioned toy maker who wishes he could bring his dolls to life to find his perfect bride. Emotional and captivating, the ballet is choreographed by Bengt Jörgen to music by Léo Delibes. It is one of the best balletic representations of fantastical storytelling the world over.

Ballet Jörgen Canada will visit 10 venues in Alberta and British Columbia, including: North Vancouver, Surrey, Maple Ridge, Powell River, Sidney, Nelson, Lloydminster, Fort Saskatchewan, Medicine Hat, and Fort McMurray. Last year’s National Tour of Cinderella reached over 10,200 patrons Canada-wide, helping to solidify Ballet Jörgen Canada’s position as Canada’s Local Ballet Company.

Called “innovative, whimsical and amusing,” the show “fills the stage with such exquisite life that you are swept along for the ride.” It is “dramatic in all the right places.” (Gary Smith, The Spectator and Susan Doolan, The Examiner)

As “Canada’s Local Ballet Company” Ballet Jörgen Canada shares the art form with more Canadian communities than any other dance company. Through performances, education and outreach programming, Ballet Jörgen Canada reaches over 50,000 people each year – one third of whom are under the age of 18.
