Music with Bite: Rhythm & Stomp

FREE entertaining and educational concert for children ages five to 12

TORONTO, ON  - Harbourfront Centre is pleased to announce the exciting performance of Rhythm & Stomp as part of the 2010-2011 season of Music with Bite. This fun, interactive and FREE concert is performed in English and designed especially for children ages five to 12.

This powerful history of percussion starts in Africa, the land of rhythm, where instruments resonate and music resounds. This animated concert takes listeners on a magical journey through percussion history, with stops along the way in the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. From African and Brazilian music to the hip hop of today, these instruments transcend all culture and time. Discover exotic and colourful percussion instruments like the kalungu, djembe, derbouka, tambourine, cymbals and apito in this rhythmic concert experience!

• Rhythm & Stomp takes place in the Brigantine Room on Sunday, April. 10, 2011 at 1 p.m.

Performed by Thierry Arsenault and Bruno Roy, this fast-paced, humour-filled concert invites kids into the fantastic world of rhythm, where the human body and everyday objects suddenly become musical instruments! The magic of rhythm is created by the human heart, rain, a ticking clock or the dancing of a flame. Exotic, colourful percussion instruments like the djembe, derbouka, bells and tambourines are used to accompany a magical story!

Harbourfront Centre’s Music with Bite is a free concert series presented in partnership with Jeunesses Musicales Ontario where children are encouraged to grab a comfy cushion and sit in front of the stage for an enjoyable, interactive music performance tailored towards young audience members. This diverse concert allows children to sample music while bringing an element of interactivity, education and entertainment to their programmes. After the performance, children are invited to enjoy a yummy complimentary snack of cookies and a Natrel® milk beverage!
