Toronto, ON… Factory Theatre presents a revival of the 2001 smash hit, Zadie’s Shoes, by Adam Pettle, April 30 – June 5, 2011, with an all-new cast and production co-directed by Adam Pettle, a Dora Mavor
Moore Award nominee for his plays Therac 25, Sunday Father and Zadie’s Shoes, and his brother Jordan Pettle, director of Factory Theatre’s Therac 25, Ryerson Theatre School’s Metamorphoses, George Brown Theatre School’s Six Degrees of Separation, and SummerWorks’ Terminating.
Adam Pettle has revised his script for the 2011 production at Factory Theatre Mainspace. Factory Theatre Artistic Director Ken Gass states, “It's wonderful to have the opportunity, a decade later, to allow the amazing Pettle brothers to take a fresh look at one of Factory Theatre's most successful plays. On one hand, of course, this is a rare laugh out loud comedy, but what makes the play enduring is its willingness to probe the darker side of compulsive behavior.”
One of the most successful Canadian plays of the last decade, Zadie’s Shoes tells the story of Benjamin - a compulsive gambler who’s just lost the money for his girlfriend’s “alternative” cancer treatment. With only 72 hours to win it back, a desperate Benjamin finds himself at synagogue for the first time since his Bar Mitzvah, praying for a miracle and a sure-fire winner. Zadie’s Shoes presents a hilarious yet moving look at the nature of luck and the power of faith.
