HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO WRITE ACROSS ONTARIO
IFOA Ontario & Open Book: Ontario present a unique writing competition for students
TORONTO, December 2011 — The International Festival of Authors’ (IFOA) touring programme, IFOA Ontario, is proud to present Write Across Ontario, a creative writing competition for high school students across the province. The competition is generously supported by Open Book: Ontario. Students in grades 9 to 12 are encouraged to choose a story-starter provided by three of this year’s IFOA and IFOA Ontario participants, award-winning authors Ian Rankin, Johanna Skibsrud, and Miriam Toews. The story-starter is used as a place for students to begin their story, but where the story goes from there is in the hands of each individual.
• Stories should be no longer than 500 words including the story-starter.
• One submission per student will be accepted until the contest closing date of February 1, 2012.
• Entries will be judged by Authors at Harbourfront Centre in conjunction with Open Book: Ontario.
One winner will be chosen from each grade for a total of four (4) winners who will each receive $500 and the opportunity to have their work published online in the Open Book Magazine.
&bulll; Students can submit their entries online via writeacrossontario@harbourfrontcentre.com.
Write Across Ontario is inspired by a similar contest presented by one of the IFOA’s Word Alliance partners, the Melbourne Writers Festival. The Word Alliance is a collaboration between literary festivals around the world, which aims to present the best authors to international audiences at events around the globe.
