what’s the pb and j LOVE HERTZ sketchprov show?
It’s the monthly show from the awesomely adorable comedy troupe PB and J, going up the third Thursday every month at the Bread & Circus Theatre in Toronto, ON. Each night PB and J perform their almost-patented form of comedic improv “sketchprov”, which has garnered great reviews and media buzz (NOW Magazine, EYE Weekly, blogTO, Panic Manual). This month’s show also features guest comedy troupe The Riot (SketchFest 2007-2010, two-time Sketch Comaggedon winners), musical guest Kate Todd (Winterfolk VII, opened for Barenaked Ladies, Radio Free Roscoe) and special host Batman.

who is pb and j?
Just a trio of some of the hottest and established performers in the Canadian Comedy Scene. P is for Pat Thornton, creator/star/head writer of the Comedy Network series Hotbox and founding member/former head writer of the Sketchersons’ Sunday Night Live. B is for Bob Banks, from the improv juggernauts Big In Japan and Mantown! And J is for Jason DeRosse from The Second City Touring Company and well as Mantown!, the sketch troupe Maybe and also Hotbox.

what the heck is “sketchprov”?
“Improv”, where scenes are made up on the spot, can take many different forms. In “Sketchprov”, after getting their scene titles from the audience, PB and J focus their improv into the structure of “Sketches”. In other words, their improvised scenes have a high joke ratio, like punchline improv. So no time to rest between laughs, put up by a bunch of experts in improv and sketch-comedy. And with the post V-Day theme of LOVE HERTZ, expect commiserating of broken hearts and lusty sine waves.

what’s the history of pb and j?
PB and J was founded in 2007 as a way for the three to combine their individual talents to see how many jokes they could cram into every improv scene they created. Their first major show was in 2008 as part of the Toronto Sketchfest’s alternative improv show. After successfully crafting the show "Cookie Party", they took it on the road to sold-out shows in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal and New York. In 2009 they brought in guest directors to help the group create a new show format that was uniquely theirs. This birthed "sketchprov" and the group’s new monthly show, which has audiences laughing in their seats!

Happy Freuds - Echo Of Sounds

With tight musicians and intriguing lyrics, Happy Freuds delivers high energy guitar rock with stylistic flair on Echo Of Sounds, their debut release. Produced with a minimum of overdubs or fixes, the album consists of a mix of original material, rearrangements of works from others and selected, less known, classic rock.

A kinetic rhythm section is the bones of the music, offering interesting patterns that augment sometimes unexpected harmonic changes. It's brainy rock, in other words, meant for music lovers who can appreciate the quality. Teo's vocals are raspy and expressive, growly when necessary - perfect for the musical mode. Teo also covers lead guitar, adapt at ear worm leads, with a tone that can be clean or dirty as required

Their sound ranges from straight up hard rock in tracks like The Mountain to the pop-flavoured acoustic Background Noise and folky To …
