Circus School for Adults at Harbourfront Toronto

From a media release:

The sky’s the limit at Adult Circus!
Harbourfront Centre’s Adult Circus class is a full-body workout everyone can enjoy
Sessions start June 13 & July 25, 2012

TORONTO, ON –
Come one, come all and experience the magic of the circus! Adults are invited to join Harbourfront Centre’s Adult Circus Class and unleash their inner performance artist while learning everything from high-flying aerial moves to floor acrobatics.

Participants can hone their skills at a number of Adult Circus activities including juggling, walking on the tightwire, climbing silks and swinging from a trapeze. Each class is a total body workout that focuses on increasing flexibility while strengthening and toning muscles. It’s a fun way to stay active and is suitable for all skill and experience levels!

“On any single night at Circus Camp we walk the tight rope, dive into crash mats, practice juggling and stilt walking. We hang upside-down from trapezes and turn back flips in the air (with help!),” says Adult Circus participant Alexandra Watson Mendes. “We run, jump, stretch, climb, turn cartwheels and summersaults and, believe it or not, a whole lot more. We work really hard and we laugh even harder. It's two hours a week of intense, full-body workout, cunningly disguised as play. And it's the most fun you'll ever have on a Wednesday night!”

With guidance from professional aerialist Marsha Kennington and her team of circus and aerial artists, everyone can learn how to become a circus performer! As the principal instructor and the director of Harbourfront Centre’s various Circus Camps and the founder of Ontario’s first Circus School, Kennington’s past experience includes working with Cirque du Monde, the social action and global responsibility department of Cirque du Soleil and The Banff Centre of the Arts.

With two sessions to choose from, participants will quickly develop basic circus skills in a fun and safe environment. All classes are held under the big top at Toronto’s scenic Coronation Park, located on Lake Shore Boulevard at the foot of Strachan Avenue, just south of the Princess Gates.
